The San Francisco Winter Bass Bash in Zellerbach Rehearsal Hall C begins at 9am with young student ensembles and progresses in student age up to 12noon and the feature recital. This year’s guest is Andrés Martin, who is coming up from Baja, California to perform his new Concerto for Double Bass. Some other highlight to look for this year are guest solo appearances by Jon Keigwin performing Bach at 10am and Kai Eckhardt in an Electric Bass feature at 11am.
Also, Lowell High School will be performing Astor Piazolla’s “Contrabajeando” for Bass Quartet; Cal State East Bay will be playing Charles Mingus’ “Hatian Fight Song”; University of California Santa Cruz will be performing “AC 133” by Simon Garcia and Steve Tramontozzi; and Abe Gumroyan will regale us with Gran Duetto No. 3 by Giovanni Bottesini (andantino, presto).
