“Blessed with an extraordinarily warm and supple voice, perfect pitch, inventive musicality and an insightful approach to storytelling, she has the capacity to express herself convincingly in virtually any area of the music world.” — Los Angeles Times

The GRAMMY-nominated singer with the silken voice and supple sense of swing returns to SFJAZZ with Hello Bluebird, her tribute to the music of one of her greatest influences, the legendary vocalist and actress Judy Garland. A remarkable artist who has always had one foot in jazz and one in cabaret, Monheit has come a long way since her debut at the Thelonious Monk Institute’s 1998 International Vocal Competition. The stylistic breadth of her 10 albums clearly shows a love for the Great American Songbook, the Brazilian pop of Ivan Lins and the hits of Paul Simon, Judy Collins, and others, so a celebration of the multi-faceted Garland is a match made in heaven. “I want to get away from the drama, and celebrate what we all loved about Judy — the immense joy she brought through song, and her innate understanding of jazz. She did so much more than break hearts — she put them together again. And that’s what we’re going to be about with this show!” Like Garland, Monheit has a gift for convincing the listener the song is sung to them alone – and when she digs into “Get Happy” and “Over the Rainbow,” you too will believe.
