MoAD will celebrate the national observance of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday as a Day of Service, providing FREE admission to the museum and programs throughout the day. Through art, performance and music, our special guests will help us reflect on the importance of protest, creativity and diverse communities.

Marcus Shelby; bassist, composer, educator, and artistic director for the Healdsburg Jazz Festival will present a musical celebration to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement. The Marcus Shelby Quintet featuring a group of rising stars will perform rearrangements of spirituals, freedom songs, and original music composed by Shelby. In 2013, the Marcus Shelby Orchestra released Soul of the Movement: Meditations on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., available on all platforms.
The CO-LLAB Choir

The CO-LLAB Choir, an Oakland-based contemporary vocal ensemble shares songs of protest and healing performing two sets.
