Children’s picture book author and illustrator Kathryn Otoshi reads and presents her character-building books Zero, One, and Beautiful Hands, followed by a fun family art activity based on Otoshi’s books. Workshop attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions after the presentation.
This program is recommended for children ages 5 and up along with an accompanying adult. The virtual workshop takes place over ZOOM; don’t forget to bring your choice of coloring materials, pen, paper, and scissors. The workshop fee includes a single Museum visit anytime during open hours (Friday – Sunday, 11 AM – 5 PM).*Learn how to safely visit the Museum again starting October 30, 2020.
Visit the exhibitions South East North West and Barring Freedom beforehand for inspiration around the themes of self-esteem, standing-up, and community-building.
*SJMA has implemented a dedicated hour of each day for our most vulnerable guests to enjoy the Museum. We invite seniors, those who are pregnant, and those with underlying health concerns to visit Friday–Sunday, from 11 AM – 12 PM.
This workshop shares an author and illustrator’s creative writing and illustration process, shows how books can help inspire compassion and kindness towards others during challenging times, and demonstrates how art can become a true community-building experience.
