Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
This workshop begins with a very brief history of the Tarot, and then we explore how Tarot is linked to art—how it blends imagery from many sources (astrology, myth, literature, etc). Marjorie will provide an overview of renaissance, modern, and contemporary Tarot poetry and fiction, including reading a Tarot sonnet from 1527 as well as excerpts from a contemporary play-in-poetry called “Queen of Swords.” The class ends with an activity: creating a Tarot lexicon with her decks and/or your deck(s) and using that lexicon to write haiku!
Marjorie Jensen studied magic and writing at Mills College, and taught Tarot writing workshops at U.C. Berkeley and The Liminal Center. She edited Arcana: the Tarot Poetry Anthology (Minor Arcana Press, 2015), an award-winning collection of verse by over 50 international contributors.
