MacArthur Fellow and award winning pianist Vijay Iyer joins forces once again with trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith–a Doris Duke Performing Artist Award winner and Pulitzer finalist–to present an intimate live performance based around their highly acclaimed duo album A Cosmic Rhythm With Each Stroke. The album celebrates the work of Indian artist Nasreen Mohamedi with a seven-part suite entitled “Suite for Nasreen” alongside opening and closing compositions by Iyer and Smith. A true musical breakthrough, A Cosmic Rhythm With Each Stroke “captures the improvisational magic of both artists and their expressive individuality” while offering adventurous explorations on “mortality, impermanence and divinity” that are both “cultivated and passionate.”
